Women, under the weight of a patriarchal society, often find themselves inadvertently objectified. I aim to expose an unsettling reality within Chinese society where women, through the customary practice of bride price, are tacitly traded, moving from their familial homes into new households as though they are possessions. In such a landscape, a considerable number of men maintain the archaic belief that women can be owned. Here, a woman’s identity, her name, and self-awareness are not just overlooked but often entirely ignored. Her value, regrettably, is often tethered to the perceived 'quality' of her husband.
