The fashion world is glamorous, but it’s also a source of endless waste. People buy clothes to fit in socially, not realizing the environmental toll of their consumption habits. We need to ask ourselves, do we really need new outfits for every occasion, or is it just a way to seek attention?

Brands are smart. They’ve made us believe we need to update our wardrobes every season. And I confess, I’ve fallen into this trap too. After wearing something once for a picture or an event, I throw it away, not wanting to be seen in the same outfit twice.

I’ve felt this pressure since I was a kid. If clothes were old or patched up, I felt ashamed. Posting the same outfit on Instagram twice? Unthinkable. We’re wasting so much just to feed our vanity and build our social identities.

And let’s not even get started on fashion influencers. Their endless new outfits only add to the pollution. Even those brands that claim to be eco-friendly aren’t solving the core issue: we’re consuming too much and wasting even more.

Our project "Layer Of Skin" aims to confront this issue. We collect unwanted clothes and transform them into new outfits for photo shoots, showing that fashion doesn’t have to be wasteful. We need to break free from the cycle of consumption and start valuing sustainability over trends.
